I've seen cloud dough pop up on quite a few blogs recently and thought we would give it a go too. I don't think i've ever made it before so i wasn't entirely sure what to expect.
We did it inside as the weather has been so dire, i put down an old magazine to minimise the mess. I was originally going to use his sand/water table but it has unused sand in and i didn't want to get rid of that so i decided an old plastic storage box would do. I also decided to use some real kitchen equipment(a colander, wooden spoons, palate knife, silicone moulds) as i like to use 'real' things as much as possible when we do sensory things.
Its pretty easy to make this stuff. 8 cups of flour and then 1 of baby oil and mix. I also added a tube of gold glitter, though you can't see it in the photos the mix was quite sparkly.
We stripped Seb down to his nappy and popped him in the tub, this was fun as he got to feel it between his toes and on his tummy as well as on his hands which he loved as he enjoys getting really messy and really interacting. He spent alot of time stirring the dough which is essentially silky smooth flour that can be moulded. He had a little taste and soon spat it back out in disgust. He also loved it when we put the mixture in the colander and made it snow.
This was a nice way to spend an hour or so and afterwards me and him were both covered in flour and glitter so shared a lovely bath(until he pooed in it!)
Its a fun sensory activity, i've read that this is hard to colour but the best way to do it if you want to, is with powder paints so thats a good tip if you fancy making it.
Have you tried cloud dough before?
