Making Chinese lanterns with toddlers

Chinese New Year is coming up this weekend so why not get your little one involved by making lanterns?
I last made these on a uni placement a few years ago. I had to do about 50 of them and the kids loved it especially when we hung them up on display.

They are so simple to make. You need some strong paper or card, fold it in half and cut slits every inch or so, leaving an inch at the top so it doesn't fall apart.
Unfold the paper and decorate. We did some with red and gold glittery paints and the others with tissue paper and glue.
Leave to dry and then glue along one edge, so that they turn into lanterns which stand up.

One dry, glue on a handle and hang up ready to celebrate.
