Recently Elmer the elephant turned 25 and as we are big fans I printed out some elephant shapes for the boys to decorate with tissue paper squares. We have done this before and it's always enjoyed and is a great way of naturally introducing colours to toddlers.
For Seb I also cut out some felt squares and we used them to make patterns on Elmer when Alex napped.
We started with simple 2 ,colour patterns and then got more creative with them as you can see. I was surprised to see how easy he found making more complex patterns. I love how he even made a pattern down the trunk :)
Recognising and creating patterns is a good base for future maths so it is a skill worth practising through play, there are loads of ways to easily introduce the idea.
