Eric Carle the man behind classic children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar has recently released a brand new book. The Nonsense Show by Eric Carle is the third book in which he introduces children to styles of art in a fun appealing way.
"-Following on the heels of The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse (an homage to the artist Franz Marc and expressionism) and Friends, with its semi-abstract artwork, The Nonsense Show forms a trilogy of sorts, dedicated to introducing young readers to different styles of artwork without ever overlooking the need to, first and foremost, appeal to children and their love of play."
Each page shows an amusing, silly or frankly surreal image, for example a.... along with rhyming text. The illustrations are typical of Carle's usual style, bright, bold and eye catching absolutely perfect to engage young children(and adults too).
We really enjoyed this book, it may be full of nonsense but it really made us laugh and Sebastian was questioning the images while Alex being a bit younger was happy to accept them. A fun introduction for children to the bizarre world of surrealism, I think we will be using this book as a base to look at some surreal art and make some art of our own.
The Nonsense Show by Eric Carle is out now, available at all good bookshops and online..
