Sculpture making at The Hepworth

At the weekend we paid a visit to The Hepworth, I always enjoy visiting the gallery and find it to be really family friendly. This time I had booked Sebastian onto a workshop called Plasterpiece which is a sculpture making class.

So Phil and Seb went off to take part whilst Alex and I had a mooch around the gallery, we have been many times and both boys love looking out of the dramatic windows, plus there are some recent exhibitions that we hadn't seen before(Des Hughes and Martin Parr).

Of course Alex is only 3 so taking him to a gallery means I don't get a lesuirely browse or a chance to read too much information about the work but I do love seeing what grabs his attention. He loved looking at all of the bright photographs displayed in Common Sense by Martin Parr, we spent some time spotting things in the pictures. He also loves the huge dramatic sculptures on display, they must seem enormous to him!

Meanwhile Phil and Seb really enjoyed the workshop which lasted around an hour , and we took home a small plaster sculpture which Seb had made along with some goodies from the gift shop (I can't resist gift shops in galleries and museums).

We are hoping to head back soon as there are a few more workshops that I have bookmarked for both boys. I am hoping to visit the KAWS exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the next week or so, I have been looking forward to this so much and we love visiting the YSP anyway.
