Earlier this week we decided to go pumpkin picking at Farmer Copleys in Pontefract. We went to the Pumpkin Festival last year and enjoyed it so much that we have decided to make it a yearly family tradition.
Now it is pretty early to go pumpkin picking but we wanted to avoid the crowds and they should keep for a while if kept cool(I will probably buy more anyway.
There is a huge amount of pumpkins available at Farmer Copleys from the traditional orange pumpkins to white, red, blue, green and yellow, smooth ones, warty ones and huge and tiny ones. The prices start at £2.50 this year.
We had a lovely walk through the fields on our quest to find pumpkins, with a bit of pretending to be scarecrows along the way. The big boys chose a pumpkin each, Seb opted for a traditional orange one and Alex declared he wanted a tiny yellow one. I picked a third, a lovely blue one, it is so cool and perfect for display as would all the quirky lumpy bumpy ones.
There were already signs of the upcoming Pumpkin Festival which starts this weekend, I am tempted to pop back again.
Of course we popped into the farm shop on the way out for a cake and some amazing pink beetroot soup!
