Zesty Chocolate Orange Cookies Recipe

Terrys Chocolate Orange is a firm favourite of mine and using it to make these chocolate orange cookies was a no brainer for me. My boys love those cookies that you can buy from the bakery section in the supermarket. However it is SO easy to make your own and you get to get your hands sticky in the process.

Zesty chocolate orange cookies recipe

I used the original milk chocolate orange in this recipe but I bet it would be absolutely delicous with the dark chocolate version too. The recipe made 22 chocolate orange cookies. I love them warm fresh from the oven, but they can also be cooled and stored in an airtight container for a couple of days. These chocolate orange cookies are a great alternative to making cakes for bake sales too.

125g butter, softened

100g light brown sugar
100g caster sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
225g self raising flour
grated zest of 1 orange
1 chocolate orange, broken into chunks

Preheat oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper. Cream the butter and two sugars before adding the egg and orange zest and combining. Add the flour and chocolate and bring together to make a sticky dough.
Use your hands to make small balls of dough (around a tablespoon of dough per ball) and pop onto your prepared tray. Lightly squash each ball a little.
Bake for 8 minutes for a soft chewy cookie. Cool on a baking rack.

Chocolate orange cookies

  • Bake for a minute or two extra if you prefer your cookies crunchy.
  • Use up leftover Easter Eggs by using them to replace the chocolate orange.
  • Substitute some of the flour for cocoa for a double chocolate cookie.
