The research also found that 87% of parents and grandparents enjoy seeing little ones running wild and carefree and 80% enjoy seeing them outside away for technology. However sadly children today spend 57% less time exploring outdoors than their parents and grandparents did. On average just 1 hour 20 minutes per day.
Our lifestyle means that we spend alot of time outside as a family. My boys are lucky enough to have grandparents who love to take them on adventures. They are definitely in the 92% of grandparents who get enjoyment from teaching the grandchildren about adventurous activities. Last month the boys spent a few days at the coast with their grandparents; they paddled in the sea, went puffin watching and explored rockpools. They have certainly seen them climb a tree unlike half of the grandparents polled.

The National Trust's 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 3/4 initiative aims to get families outside and spending time together. The school holidays sees 61% of grandparents helping out with childcare, providing the perfect opportunity to relive their childhood adventures with their grandchildren.
To celebrate the joyful experiences the natural world has to offer, the National Trust has created a wildlife documentary-style film, which you can see below, bringing to life the innate connection we all have with nature with grandparents leading the way.
